Oats are also known as Avena sativa. These whole-grain cereal are packed with important vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

They are usually taken as a porridge, added to breads, muffins, granola, muesli, and energy bars.

Here are some health benefits of Oats:

1. Oats are rich in fibre and may help relieve constipation, and also improve intestinal health.

2. They can help lower blood sugar and insulin levels.

3. Oats contain a soluble fibre called beta-glucan which is known to reduce cholesterol levels.

4. Studies have shown that daily consumption of oats can reduce the risk of heart disease.

5. It can aid in weight loss, because it keeps you feeling fuller for longer after consumption. 

6. They are gluten-free and recommended for people who have gluten sensitivity or celiac disease.

7. Oats are loaded with Manganese, Phosphorus, Magnesium, Zinc, Iron, Vitamin B1, and other important minerals and vitamins.

Manganese is important in growth, development, and metabolism.

Phosphorus is important in maintaining bone and tissue health.

Magnesium and Zinc are important in the body's metabolic processes.

Vitamin B1 also known as Thiamine, is essential for glucose metabolism. It helps the body use carbohydrate as energy. It is also important in nerve, muscle, and heart function.

Iron is needed for haemoglobin formation, which carries oxygen from the lungs to the body.
